Working on this ... hope to have more to follow .

Appreciate the time Dave spent for this car talk ( What an opportunity )

Dave was the President for Hurst Detroit , his duties were to manage P.R. for auto manufactures .
All of them . GM , Ford , Chrysler and Amc ...supervise the builds of the cars . Was in charge of everything . PR crew , H L Shahan and many others worked for Dave ...
Dave is "The Guy" to talk about these super cars ...

The main thing Hurst had the promotional cars for Was Advertising . To help sales ...for the car companies .
He oversaw production of the Hurst/Manufacturers projects , Hemi under glass , SS AMX , Sc/Rambler , (69 Hurst Olds ?), 67 and 68 military project the Chevy powered Baja Boot ,
Hairy olds . Question marks are possibly not Daves projects ...
I will get the facts and correct ASAP ..No question marked cars are positively daves works .
As we spoke directly about those ...
Other was the Chrysler Baby grand , then AMC javelin Baby grand races ..

Dave Sold the AMC BAJA package to James Garner (Rockford Files and Movie Fame)
10 cars , Eight two wheel drive And the Two Four Wheel drive cars Dave was in charge of .
Exciting life ?? Or What !!!

NOTE NOTE Note
I will recheck with Dave as I do not want to leave any misquotes , as we were really covering a lot of ground in a short time (22 min.call) more to follow ...I just want to get this posted right away. Comment if you like ...

Dave left Hurst in 1971 and formed his own company (Landrith Industries) . He had bought
out Hurst's Detroit Plants Dyno's and car fabrication tooling . Took a lot of his accounts with him .
He has owned Five Sc/Ramblers , but needed to fund his new business . So had to sell them at that time . Would like to own one again .

Dave was consultant for AMC's race programs , plus other tasks , Like spearheading
the 77 AMX project etc . (Want to get more of the Five W's) ..
For Amc in 71 and 72 he Drag and oval track raced .
1975 he took on the AMC Hornet project , that was the 1977 AMX .
Daves Team worked with Jeep before AMC bought Jeep CO...

Dave was involved with the auto industry his whole life , accept the past 10 years .
Where he is still working , for a company that has accounts for recreational vehicles .
They research and engineer parts for motorcycles , and other craft ...Harley Davidson , Honda,Yamaha , Bombardier , etc ...Make mirrors and other die casting parts .
Stated that they talked Harley Davidson into aluminum castings instead of Zinc die cast .
33% weight savings ...

Shirley Shahan was a driver for Daves team , H L Shahan drove some also .
Other drivers were regulars , Rod Hall , and a Miller , will get back w/ first name ?

NOTE NOTE SC/RAMBLER Specific
This is Minutia on Steroids . Sc/Rambler specific : From Sc/Rambler's Godfather !

There were 30 Promo cars built on the "third Floor" AMC factory in Kenosha .
Some of these were shown in Ohio , 15 were shipped to H L Shahan in California .
These 15 were brought to Orange County Speedway ...Over 200 press agents showed !!
The cars were drag raced and drivers given their time slips and prizes . A road course was set up allso.
What a Gala affair that must of been . Food , drinks , lighting up the rear tires !
I love the smell of burning rubber in the morning !
Dave plus H L Shahan were at this event ...

Hurst was responsible to put the hurst added Items on the Sc's . They added the pin stripes
and decals . They did not paint the cars ...( third floor AMC building in Kenosha ...)
Will dig for more info on the other parts the hurst team installed , Hood scoops definitely .
Tachs , head rests . Hurst Shifter ...

This is from Dave , The Tachometers were Sun ST-635 ...
The Hood Scoops were TWO different sizes . They were made in Canada . In rene' Quebec .
Their was a claim , that we're shooting down , about three hood scoop sizes . Wrong..

Looking forward to keeping in contact , as this is a really great source ...
Dave has many people he's met through the years , and has made many friends along the way.

Jim McKee's Beautifull B Scheme

Hope to get some words to go with the pictures ! The engine is very nice ...Hot Rod .
Take a peek ...

Note : Jim McKee's Car (may be the only surviving group 19 that has had this much work done)?Rare , you think ??Jim says ,The engine was built at NELSON Competition. The heads were ported by ODDY and have Manley 2.100/1.625 valves with the exhaust crossover filled with aluminum.

The intake is a very early R-4B from the "Group 19" catalog purchased before I even received my original SC/ Rambler. It is one of two I have seen without the "Edelbrock" logo cast in. It does have the 448 5728 cast in behind the carb flange.

The distributor is a flat cap Mallory with the Mallory Voltmaster coil that was also ordered from the local dealer before the car came in.

The Allman and Roberts valve covers are new from Herman Lewis. The rebuilt carb is the Holley 780 3310-AAS carb purchased in 1969. You can see why I like the engine! Regards, JIm

Reply : Yes , that is amazing to have had done and still be here . Cool as cool can be !!

Baja Baja Baja
James Garner BAJA Article :
Maverick's Movin' MachineJames Garner's Racing SC/RamblerBy Pat FosterReprint courtesy of Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine, a publication from Hemmings Motor News.
It was 1969, and AMC was eager to get its cars involved in racing in all sorts of venues. They agreed to sponsor actor James Garner, who apparently thought there was a decent chance the Ramblers could run competitively. But even so, the affable actor probably couldn't have imagined how things would turn out. After all, even though American Motors had spent nearly two years focused on racing, it certainly wasn't making the most noise in the performance world. Sure, AMC cars were doing pretty well in Trans-Am racing, but running a Javelin pony car in the prestigious Trans-Am series was one thing; entering a Rambler in Mexico's grueling Baja 500 was quite another.
But that's exactly what the American actor, famous for playing Bret Maverick in the popular TV series Maverick and later as Jim Rockford in The Rockford Files, was determined to do. Aside from TV and film stardom, Garner also was known as a competitive racer. He had formed his own team, and off-road racing was one of his specialties. His team ran a squad of four-wheel-drive vehicles in the 1968 Mexican 1000 race, and had done well. How successful they would be running Ramblers as off-road racers was subject to speculation, though.
The whole "passenger car on an off-road racer" idea wasn't entirely without precedent for AMC. Back in December 1966, a band of intrepid souls drove a brand-new, box-stock Rambler Rebel hardtop through Baja just to see how it would do. Despite conditions that could have broken a Land Rover, they managed to make it hack to civilization, where they bragged about their adventure. That got others interested in Baja. By 1967, racers were flocking to Baja to try to beat established times for driving from Tijuana to La Paz. A 39-1/2 hour record was soon beaten by a 34.45-hour run. Then, in July 1967, a Rambler American driven by Spencer Murray and Ralph Poole did the run in 31 hours, flat!
So American Motors signed a three-year contract with Garner and his American International Racers (AIR) to field a team of Ramblers modified for off-road racing. Their first showing would be in the June 10, 1969, running of the Baja 500.
The cars chosen for the race would be specially modified versions of the limited-production 1969 SC/Rambler two-door hardtop. The Hurst-prepared Ramblers already were fast street cars, equipped with 390-cu.in., 315hp AMC V8s. AMC shipped ten new SC/Ramblers to Garner's shops, where the AIR team disassembled the engines to check for defects, then reassembled them to blueprint tolerances. Horsepower was increased to 410 at the flywheel, and the cars were capable of speeds as high as 140 mph along smooth straights at about 7,000 rpm in fourth gear.
Lift kits were used to raise the front suspensions, and the rear springs were re-arched for better ground clearance. Huge Goodyear 10x15-inch tires were fitted on plain steel wheels. For safety reasons, all window glass was removed and massive roll cages were installed. Enormous 44-gallon fuel cells were added, and the undercarriages were beefed up with heavy-duty skid plates. Eight of the Ramblers were entered into the passenger-car category. The other two Ramblers had been fitted with four-wheel drive and were entered in the Experimental class.
Wearing AMC's trademark tri-tone red, white and blue racing colors, the prepared SC/Ramblers reportedly tipped the scales at 3,140 pounds, same as stock -- apparently, the removal of most of the trim and the glass offset the increased weight of the roll cages and skid plates.
The Baja 500 race began on June 11th, 1969. Jim Garner wasn't able to be there to drive in the race, due to a film commitment in Spain. However, some of the top drivers in the business were on the AIR team including Bob Bondurant, Hunter Floyd and Davey Jordan.
The Ramblers tore off across the Baja desert churning up great clouds of dust in their wake. The rugged Baja course ran through hills, stones, sand, shale and worse. Leaping from rock to rock and pothole to pothole, the ten cars raced along the 558-mile route, a punishing run that was sheer torture for both man and machine.
A 30-hour race meant driving part of the way at night, with only head lamps and big roof mounted rally lights to show the way. The entire course wasn't off-road; in fact, nearly 100 miles was on pavement, though anyone who has driven in Mexico knows that even the paved roads can be treacherous. When paved sections were under the wheels, the cars were driven flat out.
The race ended back in Ensenada the following day, June 12th. It had been a tough competition. Of the 134 assorted vehicles (cars, motorcycles, sand buggies, etc.) that set out on June 11, only 73 made it across the finish line within the required 30 hours. Among the finishers were seven of Garner's 10 Ramblers.
What they accomplished was nothing short of amazing. The car driven by Bob Bondurant and Tony Murphy took first place. In fact, the tough little Ramblers took three of the top five places in the sedan class, including 1st, 3rd and 5th. AIR drivers Ed Orr and J.W. Wright were the third-place finishers, while teammates Don Simpson and Walker Evans drove the Rambler that came in fifth. In the Experimental class, the four-wheel-drive Rambler driven by Carl Jackson and Jim Fricker managed to come in fourth. It was a stunning success for everyone involved. AMC showed the world what its cars were capable of.

AMC Factory Options Info

From many sources and documentation to back this up .
The sc/Ramblers had one optional dealer installed item( AMC recommended), this was the AM radio . The cars all had this radio delete plate .
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k25/underdog57/scparts0006.jpg
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k25/underdog57/scparts0005.jpg

Options that could of been installed in 1969 or later , other than radio package . This would of happened after the dealers received the cars . NOT from Kenosha , WI .
Note : Group 19 plus AMC recommended Vendors would apply also

Air Conditioning .
The dealer possibly installed aftermarket and oem a/c units .
Note: The dealer installed factory a/c had an ash tray alteration with it. You could not open the ashtray after you installed the a/c and the extra ashtray grip came with the dealer a/c kit.
Courtesy of Mike Lewis

Anyone could of retrofitted A/c or power steering etc .at any time after the cars were off the dealers lot .

Of Course AMC did have a list of Vendors they recommended . Machine work mostly .
I saw this stuff in person , and it wowed me !

And Group 19 and /or aftermarket parts were installed on the majority of the cars .
Every one I believe , will agree out of the possible 300 cars left. Most have been modded . A lot to the hilt .

On that Note , the factory original cars have owners that have maintained the factory stock
integrity of their cars . Would it be a disservice to ignore these owners ??
Or the ones that want to restore to stock ??
I would hope not , also if someone claims something is factory stock and its questionable .
Please show proof , documentation !!

To some degree a lot of persons restoring , want at least a few items stock looking .
Even hot rods owners may want to get a headliner , the stripes .Etc

Build the way you want to . This site is here to try to be a fun place and get info you want to know . No matter which way you want your ride to be .
Hope fully we get to the point where anyone can look up info , and find an answer to inquiry's
no matter if you are a novice or pro !!

Hurst Rambler Scrambler Q & A

Will put questions and answers here .
Then can meld them into each category

Any one that can answer these questions ?? New Questions up top here :

Q: What Part number(s) is OEM factory original correct for my 1969 Sc/Rambler , as it came out of the factory in Kenosha .???
A:Hi Bob, The radiator in my original SC/Rambler and listed in the AMC 67 to 72 parts book, F-14072, is a Blackstone radiator part number 319 4331 for 1969 01 and 10 (V-8). In 1969 the model number 01 is V-8 Rambler Americans and model number 10 is V-8 Rebels. Regards, Jim

Q: TAIL LIGHTS How to restore and decipher the tail lights ?.
A : NOTE : Excerpt from a carburetor restorer ..
The most well-known carburetor material is olive-green colored zinc. Zinc itself is a bright silvery metal that reacts with air and water to make a powdery white material often called ‘white rust’ . To prevent this, carburetor parts are treated in the factory with a chromic acid solution, which forms a thin layer of ‘zinc chromate’ on the surface of the metal. This very effectively protects the metal underneath from being damaged by water or air. This is why carburetors are usually green!

I believe the coating to the entire tail light was zinc Chromate , and the refective material
is still unknown ...

Note 1 :From discussions with Mike Lewis and the scratch/sandpaper test . We have found that the tailights were never chromed , obviously pulled stock before the chrome process for the Sc/Rambler .

Note 2: A goldish thin coating either annodize or other process was used . Inside and out I found
this was everywhere . Inside the trunk view you can see black over spray and the gold coating.

Note 3 :Outside view was painted black . The housing was painted seperate from the car . I saw black paint under the tail light flange on the tail pan ...

Note 4 : It looks like an silver coating(Not Chrome) was applied to the inner housing for reflectivity. It does not flake like paint ??? . any clear info appreciated to solve this !

Q: GAS TANK , Will a 64 and on gas tank fit in the Sc?

Q: GAS TANK , The best tank restoration ?

Q:GAS LINE GROMMET, Does Gordy have the gas line gromet yet ?

Q:GAS LINE, Is the eng. compartment gas line the same as the amx ?

Q: GAS LINE , Do the reproduction gas lines have the ''spring'' protection ?

Q: GAS FILTER , Do we or should we install an extra gas filter?

Q: UNDERCOATING :
It sounds like most of the Scamblers were undercoated, at what point did the factory undercoat them? Was the drive train in the car? It appears that the Gas tank was. I guess what I need to find out is at what point do we put the factory undercoating on the car in order for it appear more technically correct.
A: Untill more info on this , It appears the gas tank was undercoated/sound deadener applied
before it went in the car.Mike Lewis)

BOB, THANKS FOR THE EMAIL. AMC CALLED THE UNDER BODY SPRAY SOUND DEADENING NOT UNDERCOATING, BUT WE ALL CALL IT AND LOOK AT IT AS UNDERCOATING. I WOULD THINK IT WAS PUT ON AT THE VERY END OF THE ASSEMBLY LINE OR VERY NEAR THE END FOR THE LINE FOR THE SIMPLE REASON IT WOULD TAKE A LOT OF TIME TO DRY BEFORE YOU COULD FINISH BUILDING THE CAR. ALSO I HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS OF AMC CARS NEW IN THE 60s AND UP. THERE WAS A LOT OF OVERSPRAY ON EVERYTHING UNDER THE CAR AS WELL AS THE OUTSIDE PAINT. THANKS AGAIN GORDY

Q: How do ID the 68/69 engine ?
A: You will see "390) Cast in near the motor mounts . 7/16" Head bolts . 70 and newer have 1/2" head bolts .
Engine(390) 68/69 Ports shape(This is stock to your Sc . 70 and newer have dog leg ports .Here is the rectangle port photo(s)http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k25/underdog57/ScRParts0004.jpg

Q:WHAT IS THE CORRECT PART NUMBER FORTHE SC/RAMBLER TURN SIG. SWITCH ? ANY AFTERMARKET NUMBERS OR CROSS REF. ?
A: The turn switch is GM. (DELCO). comment : more info? Thanks Bob

Q. Where can I get better SC/RAMBLER information ?

A: Go back in time , to around Febuary 1969 . Hang around with line workers and Hurst people .
Talk to Dave Landrith , H L Shahan . Hang out at the the third floor of the Kenosha building .
Watch hurst's crew put the special parts on the cars . Be around the parking lot as the cars are awaiting delivery . Hop on the trains and car haulers . 1512 cars were factory original then .

Other than that , this blog and contributers of real info has no peer . Or I would be reading
the alternate "best " site . Other than that go to car shows , compare cars . Look for one owner
original cars . Talk to Mike Lewis , Gordy Chilson , Joe Roberts , Jim McKee , Bill Strobel , Andre
Jacobs . Eddie Stakes . Pour over any and every "small" home spun site's , web pages .
Phone owners that have low miles cars , rare cars . Contact Linda Vaughn . Heck contact James Garner .
A guy named Joe , Fred , owners of restoration shops ..al this and more to be continued on this blog !!! hope thats worth you nickel !!
Bob

Q. IS THE SC/RAMBLER THE ONLY 60s MUSCLE CAR THAT HAD SEAT BELTS FOR SIX PASSENGERS ?

Q. How does the SC/RAMBLER rate concering a rear end collision ? Should be some information for the years 66-69. May have some information about the mid.68 gas cap and gas tank vent change.

Q. Do you have any information about the reproduction headliners?

Q: I have noticed that the smog pump vents out the side until the engine is warm. Is this the normal?
A : According to the AMC Factory Service manual the pump can relieve pressure out the back.
It should not vent out of the pressure relief valve at idle. For much more info , please refer to the Service manual ...

Q: Does the A.I.R. on the hood of the Sc/Rambler have anything to do with James Garners Race team ?? Which was A.I.R . "American International Racing" ???

Q :Little thing for the minutia freaks : What are the holes (interior) in the SC/RAMBLER doors for ?What years and models were these doors used on ? Answer this and to the Minutia area it goes !!
A : ???

Q: SC/RAMBLER HEATER VALVE : IS RESTORATION POSSIBLE ? I have seen an aftermarket valve that is still available and a bracket that is available but not combined.

Q: SC/RAMBLER HEATER VALVE : DID THE ORIGINAL HEATER VALVES HAVE NUMBERS STAMPED ON THEM ?

Q: SC/RAMBLER BATTERY TRAY : IS THE TRAY BLACK OR WHITE ?
A: White , Photo here

Q: SC/RAMBLER : FIFTEEN SC/RAMBLERS WERE SENT TO H.L. SHAHAN. WHAT WAS THE TOTAL USED AT THE 1969 ORANGE COUNTY RACEWAY (PRESS) EVENT ?
A: The way I understood from talking to Dave Landrith(President ofHurst Ind. Detroit)
15 promo cars were at the Orange County Event .
They shipped to H L to be stored for the event . I believe all the engines were stock with no
H L Shannon mods ...you can read more about H L , and Shirley Shannon in the Historic person and event section on the Blog. Be sure to look at The Dave Landrith Post .
I put it On the first Post , will migrate it to Historic persons and events ...

Update from conversation with H.L Shahan NOTE: Update :
H.L remembers seven Sc/Ramblers delivered to him . He had the heads removed for valve
jobs . just to get them better than factory . NO porting . The clutches were swapped out for better than stock .
H.L states Dave might of been thinking of 15 Rebel "The Machine"'s that he had for 1970. But is sure he had SEVEN Sc/ramblers !!

Q:Battery Terminal Location , Are the repro batteries Correct ?
SC/RAMBLER BATTERY : THE POSITIVE POST IS LOCATED ON THE LOWER RIGHT HAND CORNER. This detail can be seen in the SC/RAMBLER issue of CAR CRAFT (1969). THE NEGATIVE POST SEEMS TO BE LOCATED ON THE UPPER LEFT HAD CORNER.

Question 2 Bat Term Locate:Do you mean Pos.post is on the left rear ,and neg post on the right front? as viewed from the drivers seat ? And is this the stock battery ?
Would like to follow up with pictures from the parts list or service manual ...as the first 30 cars were demo models ..??? Feed back , thoughts on this ????????

Q. SOME OF THE SC/RAMBLERS HAD AIR SHOCKS ON THE REAR ?
A. I THINK THIS IS ANOTHER (NON FACTORY) DEALER OPTION. It seems like the rear leaf springs have some limitations and air shocks may have been a dealer quick fix or suggestion.
Comment: Have seen only one part number , so doubtfull the air shocks were from Kenosha ..

Q. Where does the rear carpet pad go ?

Q. How much extra time was allowed to make the Rogue an Sc/rambler ?.
I heard three hours ?

Q, were the Sc/Rambler made in small batches or did they get built all at once ??
A: Incomplete Data , We know the first 30 were taken as Promo cars . Papers show 500 were to be built . But business wise , our thoughts are that they cranked them all out as one batch.
We're working at getting this resolved one and for all .

Q. How were the Sc/r's distributed ?? . Kenosha to train . And ?

Q. WHY DOES MY SC/RAMBLER POP OUT OF 2ND GEAR ? Seems like it happens most when I do a quick deceleration or slow down. Thanks, Shorty
A . The seat is in the photo is all the way forward and the shifter is in the neutral and I can not
get it into 2nd gear.

Popping out of gear article by Jim McKee (Extreme detail)
These are the items that cause an AMC T-10 in SC/Ramblers to not remain in gear besides the shifter handle hitting the seat in second and fourth. The seat interference problem is easily corrected by bending the shift handle at the bend about an inch at the T-handle. I know most SC/Rambler owners don’t want to bend and re-chrome their shift handles, so check these other items first;
Shifter adjustment. If the synchro sleeve is not moved completely into mesh with the synchro teeth on the gear it will often pop out. Readjust the shifter using a 1/4" drill or dowel pushed in the hole that runs through the shifter body and levers. Replacing the original nylon lever bushings with Hurst steel bushings tightens up the shifter.
A bent shifter fork can prevent the sleeve from fully engaging the teeth on the gear. The result is similar to an out of adjustment shifter. Replace the bent shifter fork. Please note; 1st and 2nd fork is the same as the 3rd and 4th fork.
The levers that bolt to the side of the transmission are loose and the effect is the same as bad shifter adjustment or bent fork. Tighten the levers. Usually requires readjusting the shifter.
The "C" shaped springs inside the synchro assembly that press on the three rectangular slider retention pieces inside the synchro sleeve are weak and this allows the sleeve to contact the teeth on the gear before the two are turning the same speed preventing them from fully engaging. Replace the entire synchro sleeve assembly. Individual parts are not available for synchro assemblies other than the brass synchro rings. The brass rings are available from Mr. Gasket in a four pack for Chevrolet T-10s. AMC T-10 small parts kits, shifter forks, front and rear seals, main shaft bearings, yoke bushings, bearings, first and reverse gear, and gasket kits are still available. Notice I did not include input shafts, reverse idler, third, or second gear, or the counter shaft. Many parts books list the same bearing for the input and mainshaft. The correct input shaft bearing has bearing shields and these metal rings cover the balls and prevent oil from flooding the front seal and leaking. The rear mainshaft bearing should not have these shields.
If the teeth on the gear or inside the synchro sleeve are worn and rounded off, they will be forced out of engagement (pop out of gear). They should look like a house with the roof peak pointing toward the synchro sleeve. If they are rounded off or broken the trans will not stay in gear. The teeth inside the sleeve need to be pointed the same shape as those on the gear but facing the gear. Please refer to the available parts listing in the previous paragraph. Speed shifting your SC/Rambler with the accelerator on the floor is not a good idea, because of the AMC T-10s limited gear availability.

The clutch is not properly releasing the disc. Readjust the clutch free play. If the free play adjustment is used up or makes no difference the clutch is probably worn out. The clutch can be rusted to the input shaft and this holds the disc in contact with the flywheel or pressure plate. Either of these items can prevent the synchro sleeve from fully engaging the gear increasing the likelyhood of coming out of gear. Replace the clutch. I suggest using a Hays street/strip diaphragm unit for Chevrolets 10 1/2" diameter disc with 1 1/8"x 10 spline #40-111, the pressure plate #33-610. For this clutch to work properly, the throw out bearing collar needs to be shortened by .200" where the throw out bearing presses on and the bell crank to fork lever must be lengthened to allow correct adjustment range. The big benefit with this clutch is it releases the disc much faster than the original Borg and beck clutch with rpm assist rollers and the transmission shifts are greatly improved. This clutch is rated for 500 horsepower and 7000 rpm.
The transmission is not in line with the crankshaft. This usually affects 4th gear only.
If the roller bearings inside 4th gear that ride on the mainshaft in front of 3rd gear synchro assembly are worn this can promote the trans coming out of 4th or 3rd gear. If the ball bearing on the mainshaft is galled the vibration can allow the trans to come out of gear. Usually 1st or 2nd. If the needle bearings in the countershaft are galled at the rear of the shaft this usually affects either 1st or 2nd or both. If the needle bearings are galled at the front of the shaft this usually affects 3rd or 4th or both.

Q: How do you get the hood Emblem Off without ruining it ?
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k25/underdog57/SCVSRoguetrunklid0006.jpg

Q. A LOT OF THE ORIGINAL SC/RAMBLER PARTS WERE DATED ?THE CARB., SPARK PLUG WIRES, TRANSMISSION, HOSE CLAMPS, TRUNK LID, SUN TACH, AND ????

A: Seat belts are date coded

A. Trunk lid date code:
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k25/underdog57/SCVSRoguetrunklid0001.jpg
Will do a wider view so you can locate it easier .
Heard the Hood ?? (will look) , Pass side valve cover "Tag" Should have a W in the number .Not aware of the rest of the numbers yet ...
Did not know the 635 tach was dated ? Its so hard to find ... and in the cup not visable .
Will ask around to see what we come up with , betting quite a few parts are dated . Rear end?
Glass LOF ?? Vin number of cource ...

Did this steering Wheel Center get shipped to a customer ?Or is this from a Prototype sc/rambler ??Explain this ?

Sc/ Rambler Inconsistancies

From Looking at a lot of Cars over the years we have noted these subtle differences with
assembly of the SC/R ...
More Info Very Welcome !

The AM Radio was the only option  The dealers could instal if anyone wanted one after the car arrived on the lot . Not from the factory ..
The inconsistency we have seen is the Antenna Mounting . It should be on the cowl . But some are located on the passenger side fender . There was a template in the radio kit for the antenna mount stating the cowl ,

Taillight housing has been reported by some owners as one Chromed , the other zinc dichromate like a holley carb body . Normally the Sc will have just the non plated finish that appears goldish . So the black paint would adhere better

Horn(s) , Reports coming in of single horn cars as to save weight and battery drain are most common . Some low tone , some high tone . Can be pass or driver side as well . Along with double horn cars .

Exhaust Heat shield
Some have these and some do not .
The shield under the trunk and over a rear mounted muffler. This is the large shield
BY the gas tank and NOT THE SMALL ONE ON IT.

Door Tags
Not sure if it is mentioned in the 'inconsistencies' section but have seen 6 different AMC paint codes for SC/Rambler:
00, SPECIAL, SPEC, 08, 88A & 00A, might be more, those remember right off head.
Here is one off my site:

Will get some better views , that shows one solenoid on the shock tower
, the other to the rear further on the side panel

Hood Scoop : Note , Dave Landrith confirmed only Two hood scoops were stock ...
Goodbye to that Myth !
One Myth is that there were three different sized hood scoop openings etc.
I thought the same as Gordy did , before he said anything about it ..
Have only noticed TWO different ones !! . Please add to this if you have seen different ...

Head Rests :
Two Grain patterns of the vinyl cover . The smoother leather appearing one seems to have darkened with age . Gordy can show you this stuff ...
The pattern that resembles the seat side stayed the brighter red .
Am guessing the colors were the same dye ?

Shifter knobs T Style :
Either the Four Speed shift pattern style , Or the HURST Style ..Opinions ?

Thrush Mufflers :

Either the round glass pak style : Keep in mind these did not last long , and this is not a one owner car . Sure looks convincing . Can use feed back or another source to back this up ?
Notice : The first owner of the car with the round mufflers is being sought for his info.

Photo coming of the Hush Thrush Oval Muffler .
Gordy claims his , one owner original car, that he still owns had this style from the factory .
jb said...
My first sc/rambler purchased new had hush thrush, oval. Other had round. I currently have oval, purchased years back for original.

Steering Wheel Center :
Note: We've seen a photo in a magazine of a regular rambler center instead of the AMX
style center . That the majority/all were documented to come with . Could this of been because a proto-type car was not fully together and this was substituted once ???
Or are there other cases of this anomaly ?? One owner stock cars would have a lot of weigh in here !

Front seat belts : Had two positions
Horizontal

This is the plastic holder for vertical hung seat belt . below the rear side ash trays

This photo is from a classic 69 magazine . What is the explanation of what this is doing
on an Sc/Rambler ?? The famous Rambler steering wheel center picture .
Prototype car and did it get delivered to a customer like this ??
